Question What does installing GPU drivers do that makes the display flicker ?

I have always noticed the warning that the display may flicker during the installation of drivers, what does installing the drivers do that would cause that?

Old driver is removed and the new one activated. As simple as that.

It's caused by old driver being removed. GPU as any other part can't work without a driver in the OS so it stops operating until a driver is installed. Even after it's installation it has to be configured so it may change resolution and other settings and that may cause more flickering. As GPU output changes so does monitor too to conform with input, that may be even slower so guess what, more flickering.
