I am interested in buying this motherboard GA-Z270MX-Gaming 5

In the support list, the ram i bought show that is missing a "v' in memory socket support 4

Does it mean i can only use socket 1 and 3 or something else. I am thinking in using 4 sticks of memory of model F4-3200C16D-16GTZKY

am i not able to use the 4 sockets or can i only use 3 sockets?

here is the image:

The QVL memory support list does NOT say in any way that specific memory will not work - the list only shows what the manufacturer have tested, in your case, using 1 stick and using 2 sticks. The list, again does NOT state the 4 sticks will "fail" as stated by the other poster above - that's wrong (else, it would have been categorically specified). Without a "v" (check), it means Gigabyte did not test the specific modules that way.

Also, memory support for dual channel and quad channel is NOT dependent on the RAM sticks themselves. The channel architecture is determined by your CPU, and consequently, your motherboard. You can't get Quad Channel as what the above poster suggested on your Gigabyte...
"v" in that list means "check". It means, the mobo manufacturer have tested that specific RAM model to work on one slot and two slots but not four slots - because F4-3200C16D-16GTZKY is a two-stick kit/set.

In G.Skill parlance, the "D" in F4-3200C16D-16GTZKY, means dual-channel or 2-stick set. ("Q" is for quad-channel or 4-stick set).

Buying two of those two-stick kit/set (total of 4 RAM sticks in all) are not guaranteed to work (it may work or it may not) as it was not tested by the manufacturer in that way.

Other RAM models listed in that screenshot with the "v" (check) on the column "4" means the specific models were tested to work in all 4 slots filled (because such models are four-stick kits/sets).

It's not that it wasnt tested, it's it did not pass the test...

No, it means that specific memory is not supported for quad channel, you can get a kit of 4x4Gb for getting Quad channel

You can't get Quad Channel as what the above poster suggested on your Gigabyte GA-Z270MX Gaming 5 motherboard as it only has a Dual Channel memory architecture. Getting 4 sticks would mean you are running 2 sticks per channel, which puts more stress in the memory controller.

What i said was that YOU need a 4x4 kit to get Quad-Channel, i didnt say it was for this board...
Se those blanks on the QVL? It means "Not supported/Not Tested".... See that on Top? "Memory Socket Support"...It works both ways!

The 4x4 kit would ensure less stress on the controller than if you bought 2 2x2 kit, since they are tested to work together....And THAT would happen with overclocking and temperature too, so, dont blame it solely on the memory...

You presume too much...

When you said "It means "Not supported"", that is presuming.

You should read more about how QVL works:

"The 4x4 kit would ensure less stress on the controller than if you bought 2 2x2 kit"

These statements you made above are false claims. You don't need a 4x4 kit to get quad channel (http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3211910/quad-channel-equals-sticks-ram.html). Quad or dual channel architecture is highly dependent on the motherboard. You can still get quad-channel using 2 sets of dual-stick *or* 4 sets of single-stick memory modules, provided, the motherboard supports quad-channel and the sticks are compatible (http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-3177927/single-sticks-ram-run-quad-channel.html).

Using "4x4 kit" and "2 2x2 kit" would mean using the same 4 total DIMM slots (one is 16GB total, the other 8GB total capacity). Both these kits, the 4x4 and the 2 sets of 2x2, will have put the same stress on the memory controller because both kits would have populated all 4 DIMM slots on the motherboard.

HI, I did not know if i should have created a new thread or just ask again here?

In the mother board specs say:

-Dual channel memory architecture

-Dual Channel Non-ECC Unbuffered DDR4, 4 DIMMs, DDR4 4133+(OC)

https://www.gigabyte.com/Motherboard/GA-Z270MX-Gaming-5-rev-10#kf

Does this mean putting the 2x8gb dual channel memmory modules + 2x8 dual channel memory modules in the motherboard which haves dual channel support would be compatible in theory without looking at compatibility list? or does this mean something else

thank you again

I dont know if i should laugh or to cry... #facepalm#

SEE THAT "MEMORY SOCKET SUPPORT", WHERE IT SHOWS A "V" ON THE 4!? THAT GSKILL MEMORY IS NOT SUPPORTED...THERE ARE OTHERS THAT ARE...AND ANY THAT HAVE THE "V" MARK ON THE "4", "WILL NOT STRESS" THE MEMORY CONTROLLER (AS PER GIGABYTE QVL)....

Get it or should i make you a drawing of it?

I dont need a 4x4 kit to get QUAD Channel to work? Well, i bet ill have better luck making it work with a kit than with 4 "random" single "compatible" sticks....More, why would anyone buy a Quad channel compatible motherboard and throw anything but a full kit of Manufacturer tested memory? Silly and asking for trouble...
