What does it mean to format the d drive

hi. i have aproblem conecting to the internet i dont have a recovery disk. but my d drive says recovery. but when i click on the drive in order to keep going. i get a massage that it will format the drive. does that mean that it will redo the operating system or it will erase evrything.thank u

you don't need a recovery disk if you have internet troubles. try un plugging the modem for 30 seconds to a minute. then plug it back in and you should have internet within a minute. if that doesnt work try calling your service provider for more troubleshooting.
