What does it mean when your cpu over heats

my cpu has over heated and now every time i turn my computer on it keeps telling me cpu over heated and wont boot up?

It means your CPU is too hot and will get damaged if it stays to hot!

Questions.
How old is this system? Newly build, 3 years old, ect.

Last one, Is the cpu fan running while the computer is on?

Depending what you say, will affect how we deal with the problem in the next temp.

Also can you give us you system specs? This may help us to fix the problem

Did you let it cool down before trying to restart ? Take plug outta wall ?

Do all fans turn ? have you cleaned dust out ?

can you get to BIOS screen ?
