I saw a mainboard with an expansion slot that said:

ASRock Future CPU Port (Yellow-colored):
Flexible Socket939 upgrade interface for ASRock
939CPU Board
Can anyone tell me what those words mean. Does it mean that somehow later I can use 939 CPU on that board also.

Thanks

A link to what you saw would have made it easier...

ASRock appears to have come out with a socket 754 mobo, K8Upgrade-760GX, that allows you to buy a daughtercard to stick into the yellow slot. The daughtercard has a 939 socket and 4 dimm slots so you can upgrade to a dual channel 939 CPU later.

Sounds like something just ASRock is doing - or at least it's a proprietary upgrade solution.

Seems like a waste - 939 cpus are hardly more expensive than 754 cpus, and they perform better too... So you pay a few $ more for a 939 mobo now, or you pay (probably more than) a few $ more for a daughtercard later.

Mike.
