what does orange power button mean when using hdmi cable from other source (laptop to monitor)

I have an older dell monitor with dvi to hdmi adapter in use to view movies, etc. it has worked fine for months but just stopped working. The power indicator light goes from blue to orange and no image appears...I have a new power cord, any ideas?

The orange color means the monitor went into standby mode because it doesn't detect a signal.

Try using the monitor with other sources and see if you get the same problem. It can also be the cable causing your problem.
