What does overclocking do?
And if I overclock a cpu to 5.0ghz does that mean everytime I play a game it starts at 5.0ghz and goes up but never below 5.0?

Solution
Overclocking is like boosting your hardware and getting better performance out of it like increasing the clock speed or the Frequency of a cpu but that will need a better cooling you can not heavy overclock on a stock cooler you can like light overclock, most of the people that do overclocking have good cooling because better cooling, better temps, better overclocking and you can push the frequency more, and if u overclock a cpu to 5.0 Ghz it does mean that when you open the pc and open the task manager the Frequency of your cpu will be at 5.0 Ghz all the time it will not get below or over 5.0 ghz

Thank you for the help! I understand now

Overclocking is the processes of adjusting the multiplier in the bios from the default at which the chip is guaranteed to run up to a higher number. How high is determined by your luck in getting a good chip. In the process, the cpu voltage needs to get increased. That has potential impact on processor longevity and excessive voltage may cause the processor to be damaged.
Increasing the voltage also increases the processor temperature which needs to be kept under control.
Currently, for intel, only K suffix processors can be overclocked.
Most can target 5.0 on all cores
All ryzen processors can be overclocked, but not by much. the very best might run at 4.5 on all cores.
