Question What does RAM rank mean with regards to a CPU?

This is from AMDs specsheet on the 9800x3d. I’ve searched for things like “2x1R ram” but everyone’s response is that it means rank without explaining what rank itself means.

How would I use the information above to assist in determining how the CPU restricts my ram selection? I know they give a list of compatible modules, but the “YxXR” format isn’t something I’ve dealt with.

Check the RAM manufacturer's data sheets. You might get lucky and find the information there.
