What does the c-link on the Corsair RM750 do?

I have an Asus Z87-pro mobo and a corsair RM750 psu with a c-link connector optional port and cable. What is that used for? Can it power fans? How else can I power 3/4-pin fans off of my psu? What adapters do I need? Also, pleass see my cooling options thread to give me ideas on fan choices for a corsair c70 vengeancr case. Thanks!
