So I'm building a new PC and I want to know that if there are any precautions that I should take and should I download any other drivers and software for my GPU or ram before connecting my monitor display to the GPU. Also are there any more drivers I should be taking care of? This is my first time building a PC so please excuse my nervousness. Any help at all will be highly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Your MB should come with a disk or a website link for chipset drivers etc. Download gpu drivers from amd's website.(You should probably plug in your monitor into the gpu before updating drivers.)

Welcome to the PC-building world. :)

Enjoy your stay. 😉

When you build a new PC, you'll install windows which can require 3rd party drivers or additional 1st party drivers for certain kinds of hardware (like raid controllers?) during the windows install. However, if this is your first build then it's almost a guarantee that you won't be doing that.

Don't worry about GPU drivers during the Windows install. That happens after you boot up after the windows install.

Ideally, you'll want a short list of drivers readily available (USB thumb drives are awesome) after you install Windows.

  1. Chipset drivers (install these first)
  2. Network card drivers
  3. Video card drivers
  4. audio drivers
  5. peripheral drivers (mouse / keyboard)
That's most likely all you'll be installing and that's arguably the correct order.

All of these should be available from the manufacturer's website. The drivers shipped on disk from the manufacturer are almost guaranteed to be out of date so only use them if you CAN'T get fresh drivers for the install. Best bet is to grab a USB drive and download all the drivers you'll need before you start the build process. That way, when Windows installs and boots the first time, you can just plug in your USB drive and start installing drivers.

FYI, pro tip, make sure you have network card drivers on hand. It's really annoying to need network card drivers to get online but not have them. 😛 If you have nothing more than the network card drivers, at least you will be able to get online after Windows install and download the latest drivers you need if you can't get them ahead of time.

Depending on your drive situation, have only the desired OS drive connected during the install.

If you DO have all the drivers available:

  1. verify you have install disc & drivers you need
  2. format HDD
  3. install Windows
  4. first boot
  5. chipset driver
  6. network card driver
  7. video driver
  8. audio driver & other peripherals

If you DO NOT have all the drivers available (but DO have NIC drivers)

  1. verify you have install disc & drivers you need
  2. format HDD
  3. install Windows
  4. first boot
  5. install network card drivers
  6. download chipset driver & install
  7. download video driver & install
  8. download audio & peripheral drivers & install
