What DVI do i need

I just got a pc and i'm new to these things, but my monitor and motherboard have DVI dual link ports and i have a single link DVI cable. Do I need a dual link DVI cable to connect my monitor to my motherboard? I'm trying a single link cable and the monitor says check signal cable. I'm going to be getting an EVGA GTX 670 2gb in a few days and that has a dual link DVI port. Could I use a dual link DVI cable to connect my monitor to my gpu?
