What effect will an x8 x8 SLI configuration versus x16 x16?

There is a similar question up regarding 3 way SLI with a x16 x8 x8 configuration but I'm curious as to whether I'm looking at a larger effect on 2 way with no cards in the 16 lane.

Hope this question is clear, just started learning about this stuff a week ago.

The performance difference between 16x16x and 8x8x is near nothing, unless you are using like the top tier cards, in which case its like 2% loss.

its neglible, especcially if you are using PCIe3 since x8 there has the same bandwith as x16 on pcie2
