I want to know what revision it is, rev 1,2 or 3 ?

how fast is it ? is it faster than USB3.0 ? is it eSATAp or eSATA ?

It's a eSATAp port. Perhaps check Device Manager for more specifics on it.

It is an eSATAp, which simply means an eSATA port that can also be used as a USB 2.0 port -- common on Dell laptops. eSATA is faster than USB 2.0, but it depends on the specific eSATA version used. USB 2.0 speed limit is 480Mbps, while eSATA can be 1.5,3, or 6 Gbps.

if it is 6 Gbps, I can install an OS on an external 2.5" SATA3 SSD and connect it to the laptop through eSATAp, since there is no overhead, it would run as fast as an internal 2.5" SATA3 SSD...

The USB is only 2.0 and the eSATA is very likely version 1 (at best 2.0) based on the release date of that model so it would be better to use one of the two USB 3.0 connectors on the other side of your laptop for an external drives to get the best available speed. In no case will it run as fast as an internal SATA II connector.

In addition, laptop based eSATA connectors only provide power at 5V as opposed to some desktop motherboard models that can provide 5V and 12V power.

Never mind speed, Windows won't let you install OS on ANY external.

In addition, manuals says SATA/USB2.0 compliant.
