Hello,
I am looking to get a backup device for my current system (PCPartPicker Link).

I think an external SSD would work, but I have no knowledge of hardware any more. I used to do RAID w/ Mirroring so I never really looked into external sources.

What is recommended for my purposes? I won't do internal as due to my vision impairment opening the case isn't something I can do easily.

Edit 1: I'm looking to do a clean install of windows so need to back up what I got before doing so. Reading other posts, cloud came up - I've no clue if cloud backup is good or not and if so, what are the good sites.

Edit 2: I don't think I want to do cloud.

Edit 3: Looks like I will need software to do the backup as well?

Buying an external NVMe SSD and putting it inside an external enclosure is a better value than purchasing an external drive outright. The Corsiar MP600 XT is not the fastest drive out there, but it's a great value for the money. If you want the fastest, the only two brands you should be buying are Samsung or Sabrent, because most drives at that tier are priced similarly, and both Sabrent and Samsung have a reputation for being the most reliable and stable. The 980 Pro is a good place to start for higher end drives. You can pair your M.2 SSD with Sabrent's external SSD enclosure for fast and reliable storage. If you don't want to deal with the hassle, Sandisk makes some popular and reliable external SSD's with no configuration or setup required. Hope this helped, take care.

for external SSDs - is the USB cable detachable ?........also, is the circuitry of the enclosure also on the circuit board of the SSD ?............if yes, then these 2 will give problems in the future

Yes, the 2TB 980 Pro paired with Sabrent's NVMe SSD enclosure will work just fine. As far as backups, you can store your important files, documents, and photos on your drive temporarily while you reinstall Windows. Alternatively, there is an option to completely reinstall Windows without deleting your files. When in your Windows settings, go to Reset this PC. From there, you can have Windows to a complete restore. Click the option that says "keep my files" instead of "delete everything", but keep in mind it will delete your installed programs. If you want a fresh installation without needing to backup your files, this is a good option. Hope this helped, take care.
