What gaming difference is there between Intel and AMD?

Am already settled on the 980 for my build and I was settled on the i5-4690K but what about a 8350? What would the difference be?

i5 4690K outperforms FX 8350 in games by 36.64% , on average . Another option is i7 4790K + GTX 970 . GTX 970 is only 14% slower than GTX 980 .

if you dont plan SLI , i5 4690K would be enough i.e. i5 4690K + GTX 980

I have decided on the 980 cus while it's only a little more powerful than the 970 it will last me longer

How about spending $50 more and using SLI 970's instead of a single 980? The I5 4690k is your best choice for gaming, by the way.
