Hey guys! I'm getting better at this! (sorry) But the quote above is about it. Ever since AMD released their new line of tech prices went down so I'm looking to save money on my $550 gaming build and I'm just looking for a GFX Card from Geforce that can out perform the Radeon 5670 for $66 on newegg but doesn't cost as much or at the very least is equal in price cuz HW Compare isn't working out. Thanks!

There are no current cards that match the 5670 from nvidia, aside from the GT 545, which is only available to OEMs. Some GT 545s can be found on the secondary market, but they sell for a ridiculously high price (around $150). The only other nvidia equivalents to the 5670 are old cards like the 8800GT or 9800GT.

As stated above, the only thing in your budget that could outperform a 5670 would be the 6670 with the mail-in rebate, anything better than that would probably cost you about $100 at the very least.

Similar performance and more than double the price of a HD 5670?

Wow, what a bargain!!!

Performance wise, the GTS 250 is the closest match from NVidia. But that's only because it's old midrange.

If you're doing a $550 gaming build though, about 1/3 your budget should be the graphics card. I'd suggest something more in the vein of a Radeon 6870.

Have you already bought your parts? If not, we could help you tweak them to make sure it's a good build for a good price for your purpose. Make sure you get a solid PSU (Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, or XFX).

The perfect build!!

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit $100
Local, Fry's Electronics in Tempe

GPU: Radeon 5670 $66

(Yeah I know I could go with the 6670 and have it be right on the budget mark... but as tempting as it is, I don't want to push it with the possibility of random shipping costs or store issues)

CPU: Phenom ii x4 955 Black Addition $112

MOBO: ASUS M4N68T-M $55

Total: $5.30

Now that I think about I guess there would be no point in dropping it to a 320GB HDD for the same price and cutting the RAM in half so I guess the last one would be to push it and go for the 6670 GFX. Which would be, as you know, $5.50. But then I guess the possibility stands to cut the RAM in half and go with the 6670 GFX but, we'll see :D!!! SO pumped about this! Hahah so let me know what you think please!

Sorry about the numerous posts. If you're spending $40 on your PSU after rebate, it may as well be a Corsair CX600 or Antec Neo Eco 620C. Antec Basiq is pretty much the worst line by the top manufacturers and it's better if you stay away from it. At your price point though, I recommend the Corsair CX430. That PSU can handle a much better graphics card and is $20 AR.

You may as well get some savings and get the drastically more powerful 6850 for $115 AR here: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=63985&vpn=HD685XZCFC&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1367
Or the $100 GTX 460 1GB: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=55409&vpn=N460GTX%20HAWK&manufacture=MSI%2FMicroStar&promoid=1367

4GB has the same performance as 8GB for gaming. Get this for $23 AR: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220436

At your price point, just get a Phenom II x3 720BE for $75. 3 cores is all you need for most games and it's unlocked so it should OC quite high. So long as your motherboard has ACC, you also might get lucky and unlock a quad core. Also, I'd go for a mobo with 2600MT/s HT because it might bottleneck your northbridge with the 1000MT/s ones.

The bottom line: Save money where you can and put it toward graphics. That said, I'd spend $50 to get a Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB HDD if Newegg has it on sale for that price sometime soon. It's the fastest and cheapest you can get with solid reliability.

Okay the DDR5 is too expensive. Short and simple. I can spend $50 dollars on the PSU so are there any other suggestions? But I will still check the others out. And I'll think about the 4gb RAM. And you're wrong, with 8gb you can run more programs with out it slowing down when you switch between them.(Not that I'll be running that many RAM hungry programs) Though you're right, it won't speed anything up. And seriously, I can't deny I've thought of just going with the TRI core @ 3.2ghz! But the game requires an Athlon II x2 64 or Intel Core Duo so I'm just trying to go atleast 2x over that. AND I'd have to change the MOBO I think. So in the way of brutal honesty, I'm staying with the 5670 for two main reasons, one it's $40 cheaper than the 6670 ans secondly it runs better. Now for the RAM I'll give YOU some info. The game requires 2gb at the LEAST for Windows 7. And really, I went with 8gb for one reason, price went down so it fit in the budget better so I figured, "What the heck, why not now?" But...I'M STILL THINKING ABOUT 4gb. So really, the two serious areas I need help in now are, the MOBO and PSU. I can spend $55 on the MOB and $50 on the PSU. (That's just so I have that $10 dollar cushion) Now, you must remember that I have an ATX MID Tower so I need an ATX MOBO. And now that I think of it. I guess that I could save $15 dollars by going with 4gb and pread that out over the MOBO if needed but most likely the PSU.

You said, "I'm looking to save money on my $550 gaming build." Had you said, "$550 all-around build", that would be a different story.

For a gaming build--we start at your gaming capabilities--mostly your graphics card--and work from there. If it's a gaming build, you should go with an i3-2100 over a Phenom II x4 if you want to spend that much money on your CPU: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/the-sandy-bridge-review-intel-core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested/20

So what I'm gonna do here is give you a hypothetical build for under $550 that's MUCH better at gaming than yours. Also...I'm not sure what info you gave me when you said, "I'll give YOU some info."

OS: $100 Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

GPU: $100 GTX 460 1GB: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=55409&vpn=N460GTX%20HAWK&manufacture=MSI%2FMicroStar&promoid=1367

CPU: $75 Phenom II x3 720BE http://www.chiefvalue.com/product/productdetails.aspx?submit=&item=CE00160715010060&ATTProcessors%20Desktop

MOBO: $55 (sold in plenty of places) GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2P AM3+
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128504
Did you mean your case is mATX and needs an mATX motherboard? Because nearly all mobos are ATX or mATX and both fit in ATX cases...unless you mean EATX $300 mobos.

PSU: $25 AR Corsair CX430 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139026

RAM: $23 Patriot 4GB (2x2GB) 1600CL9 DDR3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220436

HDD & DVD: $68 ASUS DVD Burner & Seagate 1TB 7200rpm HDD http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.696141&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-RSSDailyDeals-_-na-_-na&AID=10521304&PID=4176827&SID=l0s5rz1ws2jt

Case: $25 Xigmatek ASGARD II http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811815006
Either this or $45 on the Antec 300 Illusion, which is a better case, but won't help you game.

CPU Cooler: $20 COOLER MASTER Hyper TX3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103064

Total: $489

Or spend $140 to get this Radeon 6870 since it's still in your budget: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131378
Also, you could skip the Phenom II x3 and the cooler and get the Phenom II x4 955BE within your budget. You could also go with an i3-2100 and this mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157241

And for the love of God--glease use paragraph breaks! It makes it a lot easier to follow you.

i see, i forgot to include the hdd.. ok, for hdd, there's seagate barracuda 500gb sata everywhere for less than $40. well about the raidmax, im sorry if you're not satisfied with it, maybe you havent tried it even once, but mine is a king, i know those feedbacks, but me, personally neglected those testaments, bcoz i dint experienced any. my hd5770 xfire aint complaining with the raidmax psu im feeding him.=D

he could get psu any brand & model he likes. thats just my suggestion though.

well about OS, he could just make a copy from his/her friends.=D they both could share on it.lol! but make sure that he/she doesnt left the automatic updates turned on.lmfao hahaha =D

Raidmax has a bad reputation, so you won't see me recommending it:
http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx
http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/t302006.html
I will only recommend PSUs from top end brands because the cheaper Antecs & Corsairs won't break the bank, but will keep your system safe. A bad PSU can damage or kill all your parts over time. A good PSU can be used in your next build.

Here's another reason I don't trust Raidmax. Notice this 500W Antec provides just as much power on the +12V rails: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371035
They overrate their PSUs, which can be dangerous. Your 5770 might not be complaining now, but it's more likely to die sooner because of the Raidmax.

Also, I'm aware he can pirate software as much as he likes. But I won't recommend that path. If he chooses to do it, it won't be because I advised him to do so.

And if your system includes those parts you left out, mine is $140 cheaper with BETTER gaming performance.

Okay so I've looked at what you guys are saying and what do you think of this?

OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit $100
Local

DVD Burner: ASUS 24X DVD Burner $20
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827135204

Case: Rosewill R102-P-BK 120mm Fan MicroATX Mid Tower
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147111&Tpk=Rosewill%20R102-P-BK%20120mm%20Fan%20MicroATX%20Mid%20Tower

Phenom II x4 955 Black Addition $112
Local

GPU: Radeon 5670 $66
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161365

RAM: Ripjaws 8GB DD3 1600MHz $51
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314

HDD: Seagate 500GB Internal
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148701

Mobo: Unknown

PSU: (Possibly Coolmax CU-600B 600w 12v $50 Before mail-in-rebate 40) Other than that IDK!

The Motherboard and PSU are my biggest problems. An annoyance would be whether to go with 4gb or 8gb of RAM. And yes, I'm aware I'd be better off money wise if I just went with 4gb but I wanna be sure I have enough just in case I'll be running more than the game. Which for the record requires 2gb minimum. The specs are:

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 4000+ or better

RAM:Windows XP: 1.5GB RAMWindows Vista and Windows 7: 2GB RAM

Note: PCs using a built-in graphical chipset are recommended to have 2GB of RAM.

Video Card: Star Wars: The Old Republic requires a video card that has a minimum of 256MB of on-board RAM as well as support for Shader 3.0 or better.

DVD-ROM drive - 8x speed or better (required for installation from physical editions only)Internet connection required to play.

So, say I finished the build with the ATI 5670 2gb RAM and the x4... could I max it out?

Also, is there a difference in these two other than the slightly less voltage?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314

And another thing I should seriously mention... Uhh yeah, I'm not exactly planning on buying the build this year. To be more exact... AMD is releasing their new 7000 series line come Nov. So all GFX Cards will drop in price. Saving money.

You obviously aren't interested in what I have to say, so what's the point of responding. You say that you want to blow $550 on a "Gaming" machine, but you're not interested in a legitimate graphics card. I tell you, "Make sure you get a solid PSU (Antec, Corsair, Seasonic, or XFX)" and you come back with a Coolmax. I tell you a 5670 is weak at gaming and you want a fancy 2GB version--that won't help it do anything faster--just like 8GB of RAM won't help. I have 4GB at work and I bet I multi-task more than you and do just fine. Can you max it out with a 5670? Heck no!

You don't know what you're talking about and you aren't willing to hear what I have to say--I can't help someone who doesn't want helping.

PM me if you decide you want a $550 build that can actually run SWTOR well. I'm closing this tab in my browser so I won't know if this post knocks some sense into you.

HHAHAHAHA you're funny indian! listen the GPU you recommended is worse then the 5670 by far! I used a trusted comparison site and the PSU is bad and I won't bum W7 off my friends I'm going with dal's bundle DVD & HDD an you recommended the same RAM I already ahd same goes for the CPU. So seeing that I only tweeked my build based off what you two said.

why an hd6670, hd6750, hd6770 be worst than your sweetheart hd5670?=D
if you visited the "hwcompare" site, that site is a joke! we could only use that if we want to check the specs of a certain gpu, but never ever use that to compare two gpu's. >.<

*brb, im having toilet difficulties*
