What going on w/ Dell Monitors?

Checking the Dell web site configuration for Dimension desktops, I notice an
absence of higher end flat screen monitors. Is there a transition going on
to newer, to as yet undisclosed models?

*Which* Dell web site? And using what route in making selections
on that Dell web site? What is your definition of "higher end
flat screen monitors?"


By going in on the main site, and not through either the
Home/Home Office or Small Business pages, I went through a
desktops link to find lots of models with plenty of flat screen
monitor options. Given that lack of knowledge of your definition
of high end, I was unable to determine if any of them would have
met your desires.

I guess in my ignorance I assumed that Dell's site for home office
configuration for Dimension desktops would have their complete selection of
flat screen (LCD) monitors. I'm looking to buy a Dimension system with a for
my home office but I guess looking at Dell's home office site was a mistake.
Here's the LCDs they offer:





17 in E173FP Flat Panel Display [add $220 or $6/month1]


19 in E193FP Flat Panel Display [add $348 or $10/month1] May
delay your Dimension 8400 ship date





15 in (15.0 in viewable) E153FP Flat Panel Display [add $152 or
$4/month1


Somehow, the above does not fit my idea of a high end monitor. Maybe
something called "Ultrasharp" might better fit my definition of a high end
LCD monitor. Why aren't they given as options when configuring a Dimension
8400 or 6400 machine? Is Dell planning to offer some newer models not
offered elsewhere on their site? Their 1504 and 1703 models are discounted
on their separate monitor section of their site. Maybe they're being
discontinued.??

Try the Small Business side. They list about 5 Ultra Sharps. It *may* be
cheaper there too depending on what configuration you are looking at and
what state you live in.

(As a side - I'd look at the 4700 instead of the 4600.)

You may be right about new offerings....I saw this on their site and I think
it is new;

Curiouser and Curiouser. When I checked the Dell sites
Wednesday, in preparation for my response to the OP, the wording
on the note for that monitor said something like "Monitor will be
shipped later than system." Now, as you say, all of those notes
have been changed to "will delay your system".

FWIW, I thought the first choice was the more sensible for the
customer, albeit probably not for Dell. Other than newbies, most
of us typically have a monitor already, one that we could use on
the new system pending arrival of our new flat panel, whilst
getting the new computer configured, loaded, etc. Heck, I
suspect I'm not alone in having a spare 17" monitor sitting
beside my "computer parts box", lest [as he knocks on wood madly]
the 19" I'm currently using goes south.
