What GPU is a good choice for gaming 1080p @ 144Hz as of July 2016?

I'm currently trying to build a PC to match my Asus VG248QE. What are my best options as of right now.

I want to say a 1070 because it's supposed to be the equivalent of 2 970's but I haven't personally tried one, my 780ti's struggle to get that in new games, the 1080 would be a better bet if you can afford the extra.

1070 should get 144 fps at 1080p.

I have a Gtx 1070 founders edition and a vg248qe and I get high FPS in games, such as tomb raider, rise of the tomb raider, fallout 4, in really high graphics at 70-100 FPS
