I want to go with Nvidia as the brand, and I'd prefer to get a graphics card for less than $300 CND. I don't think I need more than 4Gb memory, but I wanted to ask what your opinion is? Any advice? Thank you!

buy a GTX 1070 for 299.99 it will serve you well and has 8gb of vram. You could also buy a RX 580 but its less powerful, but much cheaper.

I think lots of other factors come into play before GPU VRAM does, and it only really seems relevant when you're working with really high-resolution files. If you have a decent CPU with atleast 4 cores and perhaps 8 threads, along with a half-decent GPU of practically any kind (GT 1030, RX 550?) you'll have a decent PC for video rendering.
