For 144hz 1080p either the 5700xt or the 2080 are fine.

Both of the guys offer you good option but it all comes down which is the better card for you since you want a card for casual gaming and editing and the budget is around $800, you may have to ask yourself which is which.

Casual Gaming and Editing:
Do you utilize RTX Feature when Editing?
Do you use RTX when playing games?

If you do then buy RTX you might appreciate the RTX features when playing games and all specially editing as well most professional like Hollywood editors uses these features in movies.

however if you think about it and just being practical the RTX 2080 S TDP is around 250w to 270w the performance it's not that big, from stock RTX 2080 and considering the Price as well

The RX5700 XT TDP is around 225w and it depends on the different AIB manufacturer as well that consume more power but more perfomance as well and the performance is well enough on par with the RTX 2080 in some titles

So Price to performance ratio the RX 5700 XT is better considering the price with the RTX 2080 Super around $750 and the RX is around $450 I think it's obvious enough

so you can save almost 400 or 350 bucks for that and that card can handle least 3 to 5 years so with that you can save for another upgrade.

Take Note: not most of the games utilizes RTX features as well, it may take 2-3 years cant say for sure though, before all of the game developers utilizes RTX. and it is also cutting the performance of the card hitting around 50 - 60 FPS, its a ground breaking feature but still not worth to go.

but still not forcing you to take AMD or NVIDIA just expressing opinion here and its your take which is better for you if you dont have financial issue and then take NVIDIA and utilize the feature.
