What GPU should I get tomorrow?

I have come down to the conclusion that my GPU may be faulty and I'm replacing it. I'm willing to spend $450 CAD and am leaning toward a ATI XFX 5870 1GB

Should I stick with ati or go Nvidia " I know this is a hot topic, lets keep it sensible and most efficient for higher end gaming needs such as crysis, metro 2033, and battlefield, and Modern warfare 2"

My PSu is 650 watts corsair and the rest of my specs are in my sig.

Okay we can stick with the single card issue. This is getting confusing but to clear things up on my psu here is a quick and detailed spec overview.

So I have the cash for a 480 but is it needed?

I really am looking for somthing that will preform well with crysis and all higher end games...

Single card appears to be my only option at the moment..

If you want a bit more power than the 5850/470, i'd go with the 5870, its substantially cheaper than the 480 and doesn't use as much power or put out as much heat.

5870 IMO, if need to spend less, than 5850 (oh, and as for brand, I like XFX. I haven't had others, but the lifetime warranties and support is good)

I've got another 5770 being shipped to me right now, so i'll have 2 in crossfire. The problem i've realized with such a setup is the ability to upgrade. Going with a single 5850 or 5870 means benson can get another later and crossfire if he wants.

exactly.

So if I get one good high end card now, I can upgrade with a stong psu and another one of the same cards later when I have money again :)

The question now is what one single card do I want???

5870. 480, or????

I want something that has a good potential for crossfire later. Most likely around Christmas if I can get my computer working because my 5870 e6 2gb model I'm returning was choppy in aiming with some games.

yea, thats how i did my setup, except with the 5770s. I got the first one back in december, and now just ordered a second a couple of days ago. it was cheaper and more practical than buying an entirely new card, plus allowed me to buy some extra accessories for my computer with the money i saved :)

IMO, i'd go with a 5870. it will require a new psu when you want to do crossfire, but it still won't suck as much power as the 480

Its a really economical choice. Although it still involves pushing out alot of cash for one card now but maybe near xmas time it will be marked down.

Myissue is what gpu do I want???

Basically the question is:

Nvidia 480

or

ATi 5870

What one will be better later as well for sli/ crossfire and compatibility with upcoming titles?

I personally like XFX and their black edition looks pretty good nor is it the most expensive of the bunch. If you go to newegg and find the same card as on Canada Computers, you can read the user reviews.

I've had to go to the XFX support for an old 9500gt that broke, and they were great about getting me set up to RMA the card, although i still actually haven't sent the card in since i've been busy
