For a balanced gamer, my rule of thumb is to budget 2x the cpu cost for the graphics card.
That would be a $200-$250 class card like a R9-280 or a GTX670.

Well.. If you're the gamer.. I would choose AMD HD 7000+ or R9, or nVIDIA GTX.. It depends on your budget - AMD cards are cheaper, and nVIDIA support PhysX. And there's still another thing : if you build gaming PC, choose PSU wisely (PSU with low wattage may crash)
