What GPU should I upgrade to? Is the GTX 970 worth it?

Hello, I'm looking for a new GPU to run GTA V,Fallout4,and Farcry at 50-60 fps. A GPU bellow $350 and it can be either Nvidia or AMD but I'd perfer Nvidia. I was thinking a GTX 970 but is there another gpu that is better? Thanks!

Good I guessed right w/ the above graphic :)

The 970 (reference) gets 63.2 fps in GTAV (74.0 OC'd) / the 390 (reference) gets 58.2 (62.6 OC'd)
The 970 (reference) gets 70.3 fps in FC4 (82.3 OC'd) / the 390 (reference) gets 79.6

You'll need about 70 watts extra outta ya PSU for the 390. I look for about 1 case fan for every 75 watts of heat so take that into account when outfitting ya case.

As you are going to play games that require a good GPU and as you aren't willing to pay more than $350 you cant really go wrong with the GTX 970 since it acually is one of the most, if not the most, priceworthy GPU's on the market right now.

Have you thought of a specific one or would you like me to recommend some?

Unfortunately I can't tell you if you will hit your desired resolution as you haven't specified your resolution. But at 1080p, If you use the cards right out of the box, the 970 has a slight edge. If you use Afterburner to OC ya cards a bit, then the 970 is the easy choice... it not only tops the 390 but also the 390x when both are overclocked. The lead is huge at 1080p but just about 1% at 1440p over the 390x using TPus 19 game test suite. Of course some games will favor one board and some the other.

At 103 versus 99 for reference cards, that puts the 970 about 4% faster than the 390. A non-reference 970 will do about 17% over stock settings, the non-reference 390 about 8%
