Hi, I need to buy a new Graphics Card, I am not on a high budget, I was using a GTX 970 SC which is garbage now, Not working at all, I am a media student and I need to use Adobe Photoshop, Flash, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Maya, 3Ds, Harmony, Blender etc.
I can afford cards like GTX 1660 , 1050 or AMD RX 590, 590 etc. can you suggest which one is better for my work? And should I go with AMD or NVIDIA,

You can also suggest any other card apart from the ones I mentioned above.

Please Assist...

Generally the 1660 will net you the best results but it's about $40 more expensive than the rx590 which is actually worth it. What's your max budget for this?

I am not talking about 1660 TI, the normal 1660 it is CA$ 15 cheaper than the RX 590 from gigabyte.. my budget is CA$300. Which is really high for me, the time I bought the GTX 970 SC I had money but now I am on a budget. 😞 please help...

I know you meant the 1660 I was just looking at USD prices, cheapest 1660 I can find on the canadian market is $300, cheapest rx 590 I found is $270: https://www.newegg.ca/sapphire-radeon-rx-590-100415p8gl/p/N82E16814202333?Description=rx 590&cm_re=rx_590-_-14-202-333-_-Product

Rx 590 is $30 cheaper & they're almost the same performance, 1660 might edge it it slightly when it comes to gaming & rx590 might be slightly better for your workloads. There isn't a huge difference so I would just go for the cheaper one if I were you.

Thanks! I really appreciate your help 😊

I'm not sure I would upgrade to any of these cards actually. If a GTX 970 is "garbage", these options likely won't be all that much better. For comparison, a GTX 970 generally performs similar to a GTX 1060 3GB or RX 570.

A GTX 1050 would only be about half as fast as your current card, a 1050 Ti would be around 35% slower than what you have, and even a 1650 would be around 10% slower, so you definitely wouldn't want one of those. The RX 590 and GTX 1660 would be around 25-35% faster, at least in gaming scenarios, though application performance could vary significantly depending on how an application utilizes the card. I wouldn't expect the performance difference to be massive from any of those cards though, and if your budget is really limited, it might be better just to save up until you can afford something significantly better.

Probably worth asking, what are the rest of your system's hardware specs? Maybe there's some upgrade that could help more than a new graphics card. And where do you encounter performance issues in those programs? A graphics card upgrade could help performance in 3D modelling software, but isn't likely to help that much in something like Photoshop, where most tasks tend to depend more on CPU performance.
