If i wanted a 4k monitor playing games at ultra settings at 60fps, what graphics card/s would i use, and is it possible for three 4k monitors playing games at ultra settings, if so what are the graphics cards needed for that and how many in SLI? Looking for an nvidia card, not an amd

Solution

no, even with two 980 ti you would need to turn down settings at 4k to get locked 60 fps

What card/s would handle one 4k monitor at 60fps on games at ultra settings? And what if i had a middle 4k monitor and two 2560x1440 monitors either side, what and how many graphics cards would i need?

You will never see your framerate go above 30 fps because the display only refreshes every 30 seconds. If I were you i would not mess around with 4k just go with 1080p.

There are many people who test 4k gaming and I read an article where the people testing were having trouble running a single 4k monitor with a R9 295x2, a very beefy card.

I have read in many places that 2x980ti in sli can run one 4k monitor playing games like witcher 3 and gta on ultra settings at 60fps? How does the r9 295 compare to the 980ti, i havent looked into amd cards and would rather stick with nvidia.

Yes we are not nearly advanced enough to 4k game without some issues regarding lag, hiccups, or crashing. 4k is always much much more expensive than other lower resolutions.

Triple QHD pushes more pixels than a single 4K panel. You would probably be good with 2 980Ti in games today, but I'd suggest building your rig to take one more card in case future titles demand more.

...or you know, get 4 Titans

One Nvidia Titan X can handle 4K 60 FPS with ease therefore 3 monitors means 3 Titan X's.

As much as I don't want to be a douche...
1. You resurrected an old and answered question

2. No, a single Titan X cannot max out modern games at 4K 60 fps

3. No, SLI does not scale as much as you think. 3x Titan X does not mean 3x the number of pixels

Sorry bro, not even quad Maxwell Titan Xs can handle that, they can run 1440p though, dual Pascal Titan Xs can run any AAA game at maximum settings at 4k 60+fps with dual monitors at most. A single Nvidia 1080 can run AAA games at 60+fps on maximum settings on a single monitor. For If you want the best of the best I recomend these specs, if you have the money, of course.
CPU/Intel I7-4790k w/Frostbyte 360
GPU/Dual Titan X(Pascal)
Motherboard/Asus X99 Maximus VII Hero
PSU/Novatech 1000W Power Station V2 Black Edition
RAM/Corsair Vengeance 4GB*4
Storage/Samsung 850 Series 2 TB SSD
Case/NZXT S340 White Mid-Tower
For even better results, you might want to consider overclocking, with a liquid cooling unit on your CPU, and good enough fans on yor case, you can get you I7-4790k to run to up to 5.0 Ghz, maybe even 5.2 if you use a mineral oil case.
