[SOLVED] What graphics card should i choose for 1440p 144hz

I have a 1400 CAD budget for my whole build and would like to know what the best graphics cards are for playing at higher refresh rates at 1440p.

I'd say a 3070, or the rumored 3060 Ti.
Getting last gen cards is also possible, but only if you see decreased pricing for them (which is not actually happening right now.)

With $1,400 CAD, a 3080 is more than doable (~$1k), and is the outright 'best' card within budget..... Tough to find one at the moment though, but if you can find one...

3070 is about to launch and ~2080TI levels of performance, so another great option....anticipated to be ~$700 CAD. Likely to have the same supply issues initially though.


Really depends on the games you play & the settings you want though. 2070Super, 2080/Super or 2080TIs may well be plenty if you're not looking to max out AAA titles, but the price has to be right.
Used, a 2080TI might make sense in the $600 CAD or less pricepoint, and scales down from there.

one question though, for a used rtx 2080ti like 600-700 dollars, isn't it a bit risky like buying used, especially for pc parts

3070 sounds like an appropriate card for 1440P, but you may have to buy that used 2080ti if 3070 is hard to find.
What are you planning on for processor?
Is your gaming fast action shooters? If so, good graphics is all important.
If you play more cpu centric games such as sims, mmo and strategy games, then look more to fast [rocessor speeds, particularly single thread speeds.

One rule of thumb is to budget 2x the cost of the processor for the graphics card.

I’m running a 3080 at 1440p and it’s a brilliant combination. It will be good to see the 3070 benchmarks as it may offer a better price/performance but if an option the 3080 is a beast.

the monitor is not included and the os isn't either the 1400-1600 cad is only for the pc, before tax.
The processor I want to get is the 7 3700x, but I might wait for ryzen 5000.
The games I play mostly include triple A titles and first person shooters

I just checked prices on newegg.ca.
Ouch!!
3080 is in the $1000 range, and 3700K is $400.
I think you need to adjust your aspirations.
If the 3070 shows up at an estimated $700, that likely will be a good option if you can find one.
I would consider buying used on ebay. They protect buyers.
A number of RTX2080 owners who snagged a 3080 or 3090 are selling the cards on ebay.
Buy from an individual who is not looking to make a profit, but just trying to recoup something.
Look at the feedback and buy only from sellers with good feedback.
Pay with paypal. if anything goes south, you are protected.
Look for a EVGA card. EVGA extends the warranty to a second buyer if the card was properly registered with EVGA.

Another possibility is to buy a new, lesser interim card.
If it is an EVGA card, they have a free 90 day trade up option if you want to upgrade to something stronger.
Read the details on their web site; I hope it applies to Canada.

As to processors, for gaming I would look at the i5-10600K
The higher clocks will serve you well in games.

Used parts are perfectly fine.
