im building my first gaming pc and i did quite some research.
i know that the amd radeon hd 8000 series is gonna come soon.
i want to buy an hd 8950 wich performs 10% better than a hd 7970 for the same price.
but the problem is i want to build now.
what graphics card should i go with until the hd 8950 comes out.
something below 300 dollars please.
system specs.
i5 4670k
msi z87 gd65
8gb corsair vengeance ram
cm hyper 212 evo
1tb seagate barracuda
samsung 840 series 120 gb ssd
gfx card
corsair cx 750

just get a gtx 770 for 400$ which well probably be around 5% weaker the the 8950( i dont know anything about the 8000 series yet, relaying on what u said about the 8950)

get an overclocked edition, maybe this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130921
buying a 300$ gpu now, and then buying a 8950, for that money you can get a gtx 780 now, which is obviously much powerful then the 7970( maybe 30% more)( unless you plan on selling ur old one, but thats not worth the trouble honestly, better just get a beast gpu now)

I do not much favor buying interim products.
One option is to use the integrated graphics. You will not have fun with fast action games, but static strategy games would be ok.

It is unknown what the 8950 will actually bring with the rumored September release.
When launched, it will have to compete with the older 7970 and the GTX770. If the price/performance ratio becomes out of balance, the loser will adjust prices to become competitive.

If you are building now, just buy a 7970 or perhaps a GTX770. You will get 2-3 months of good gaming. My perception of differences is that 7970 will give you good benchmark fps numbers. GTX770 will give you more consistency (less lagging). Both are good, take your pick.

Edit:
After reading about your $250 price point, look at the GTX760 or the 7950.

You will end up spending alot of money then, either use integrated until u have enough money to get a 8950( or something else) or get a 760 now.
