Hello, hardware geeks!

I am Alex and I want to collect opinions on what GPU to get for my new rig,

My specs so far:

  • Intel i5-8400
    ASRock H370 Pro4
HyperX 2666 MHz, 8GB (Will upgrade to 8GB)
    970 EVO SSD
    EVGA SuperNOVA G3
    Radeon HD 5850
That's what I got last month, except that ancient GPU, that carried over from my previous machine. I wanted to wait to see what Nvidia will announce and decide from there.

My goals: Quick, responsive machine, capable of 1080p gaming on 60Hz, High to Ultra settings for the next few years.

One last thing to provide as a background: I live in Bulgaria and prices here are through the roof. Reference:

  • MSI GTX 1070 Ti - 700 USD equivalent
    Sapphire RX 580 Nitro+ - 400 USD equivalent
I have a friend in USA right now and I can have her bring back a GPU from there. This particular list is very appealing, compared to my local offers. This MSI 1070 TI would be perfect, in my opinion.

I did some research and I figure everything above RX 580 8G and GTX 1060 6G would do for now. However a 1070 TI is more probable to last a few years, as opposed to 1060.

I had almost decided to go with a local purchase of RX 580 Nitro+, but it just hurts to buy that instead of 1070 TI for 70 USD difference. A strong argument can be made, however, for a local purchase - warranty. USA suppliers would probably not cover international warranty. I have consulted with Newegg, for example.

Given all that background, what would you guys suggest? My plan is to have a good GPU for the next few years and upgrade to Turing in the future, when it has developer support and reasonable prices.

TLDR

Buying a USA GPU:
Pros: better value for price
Cons: lack of warranty

Is GTX 1070 TI a good pick?

What manufacturers do you propose? A lower rate of factory defects would be a selling point, if you have such information, since the issue with warranty.

if I were you I'd get a 1080 or 1080ti if you can. you should definitely have your friend get it and bring it back to you. You won't have a chance to get a good deal(or maybe you will...) again, you'll have to overpay in Bulgaria. GPU prices on pascal cards are going down and you can score what is still an excellent card for cheap if you take advantage of the situation. you'll be set up good for the time being, the 1070ti is a good card as well. I hear you on the warranty thing, good luck

Main issue with getting it from the usa is TSA. They will most likely confiscate it and you'll have to pay a fair bit of import tax to get them into bulgaria.

if you are only using 1080p res a 1060 will likely do u the best on budget.

a 1070 "might" be better only if the future min eq of games increase at a fast pace (which is unknown)

getting a higher end card but never needing it and having it die from heat/age/ect. is just a waste of $.

but if you plan to do over 1080p then i'd say go for a 1070 since 1060 isnt really made for over 1080p.

"future proof for years" is always up in the air.

I mean a 1060 only gets u 40 fps on MHW. But games like that are not common. will it be common 3 years from now? maybe. maybe not.

if you do plan to upgrade to a RTX in future might be betetr to get a 1060, save aroudn 100$ (or w/e the difference is) and put it towards savings towards your future card.

I've had friends bring back PC components from USA a few times in the last 4-5 years - no problems. Is there some new law or practice you are referring, or is it a general concern?
