What graphics card to get

I'm looking at possibly getting a GTX 970 vs an amd firepro 9100.

My current monitors are 2 AOC 2757, and I'll probably hook up an hd tv to the grpahics card as well.

The monitors and tv have hdmi inputs to them. I would like to have the ability to control what sound goes out what input if possible.

Should I be considered with keeping everything as hdmi?

I plan to mostly use a card for writing code, doing simulations with matlab, doing signal processing and occassionally using youtube, hulu, amazon prime, etc.

I don't see myself doing any gaming.

What will your pc components be?
For such usage, the integrated adapters on many motherboards will do the job.
You should be able to output to three monitors. You will probably need adapters if your monitors are hdmi only.
I know for matlab, you will want a very fast single core.

I plan on using a Dell T7600 with some 8 core Xeon processor. The applications I will write will have many threads running with lots of processing. The matlab is more to get me up and running.

Will the applications you write make use of CUDA like MATLAB? Depending on your very specific needs, those Dell workstations typically come with Tesla options too, which may or may not fit better for what you're doing:

If you're considering AMD though and with/without CUDA isn't a deal-breaker for you, then you can get really great hardware for the money. It has to be a specific use care right now though (at least in my opinion) as if others will be using this (how will they be deployed, if ever?), then of course many colleagues you run into will be more familiar with CUDA based tools/libraries/etc.

That's some great info. At the moment getting something with/without CUDA is not a deal breaker.

I think if I ever want to start using CUDA I can always get a different video card in the future.

I might be after something like this it seems, http://www.ebay.com/itm/PNY-Nvidia-Quadro-K2000D-2GB-GDDR5-DVI-x2-mDP-x1-PCI-Express-Graphic-Card/272177217124?_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140602152332%26meid%3Dfdfc1eedd4ce4146863608c69da770d4%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D10%26sd%3D321833167519. Is the Quadro K2000 a good card?

It's hard to find info on using gpus for professional use.

This website says the gtx 970 blows the K2200 out of the water, http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-Quadro-K2200-vs-Nvidia-GTX-970/2839vs2577. How do I compare these cards for that I expect to use them for?

It is, but it comes down to what you're really using it for and then looking for benchmarks that target that feature. Double precision calculations, single.....it makes a difference.

What exactly will you be using GPGPU for?
