With that CPU I would recommend a Gtx 950 or if you spend more I would go for an R9 380 instead of the 960, then a 380x if you go up from there. However, no matter how good of a GPU you get, you're going to have a super tight CPU bottleneck in many open world games with draw distance and lots of loading. Your CPU is going to hold you back so I really wouldn't recommend anything above the 380.

If you plan to get a new computer anytime soon, I would try and get an i5 6400-6600k. I know that's an expensive recommendation, but it's what you will need to do to alleviate your bottleneck and not run into one in another year or two.

I would reccomend a Nvidia GTX 960 for all your standard gaming needs it smashes almost any game on ultra at 1080p. games like battlefield 4 get 90fps on ultra, bioshock infinite gets 100+, rainbow six seige at around 60-80 all running at 1080p. hope this helps

No. So much overkill and $$ going to be wasted in most games. If OP is playing games that aren't super demanding, the 970 is overkill. If he is, then his CPU will bottleneck him. The only times a 970 would run well with a A8-6600k is in a game like Tomb Raider.

But shadowplay though! and the 950 is ok but can struggle with some higher end stuff.
