I have a ASUS M5A78L-M/USB3 with an amd fx8350 cpu, 8gb ram, 500w PSU. My current graphics card is the geforce gt520 (very old and now does not function very well).

I am looking to upgrade the GPU, my budget is £50 - £150. if possible i’d like to be able to play games such as fortnight, forza, skyrim and modern titles, with decent performance.

There are so many graphics cards available and would like to ask anyone knowledgeable about the current climate in GPU’s performance, price and value if they could give me advice and any pointers to look for when purchasing with my current hardware setup.

Thanks for any help in advance:)

In reality, you could get an RX 580 for actually a few dollars less than the 570, but the price of a power supply capable enough to run the 580 would put you well past the maximum budget by about another £20.00.

If you look around, you might be able to find these parts a little cheaper through local suppliers. Seems PCPP isn't terrible accurate at...

hi, thanks for the reply,

My PSU has the following written on the side...

ATX switching power supply
CIT Pentium 4 Model: 500U
500Watt p/n EP10N1

thanks for the help!

As long as you have a CIT power supply, I would NOT recommend running ANY graphics card. At all. If you want to upgrade your graphics card you are going to need a better power supply else you are wasting time and money, and possibly even throwing it right in the trash. CIT is among the worst possible PSU brands in existence, and to the best of my knowledge they don't even have one single PSU model worth even trying to find a review for. Which of course you wouldn't find anyhow as none of the professional reviewers would waste time reviewing a unit that is worse by far than any of the OEM units you might find in a prebuilt system like Dell, HP, Lenovo, IBM, etc., and those units are usually very terrific to start with.

So, even if you DIDN'T get a new graphics card, I'd STILL highly recommend replacing that power supply with a better one. Even a Corsair CX series unit would be a lot better than that. If you think you might be able to budget for a new PSU and a graphics card, let me know what kind of budget you have, what country you are in and where you are able to purchase from and I'll see what kind of options are available that would be worthwhile.

h, could it damage a new graphics card if I installed with my current PSU? I could stretch to £200 and could buy from any uk sources, ebay, amazon or others!

thanks for your time and help!

This is probably about the best your going to do within that budget. £250.00 would likely net a significantly better combination, but this setup will perform admirably with decent settings at 1080p and higher tiered cards will likely be bottlenecked by your FX platform anyhow, so this is probably a fairly good happy medium.

thanks for the info!

if i wait a few weeks and pay the extra £50 for the upgrade to cost somewhere near £250 could you let me know what the options would be then? I am hoping that if i upgrade to a new system some time in the near future i would be able to use the PSU and GPU in that, if it is a huge leap in performance it might be more cost effective in the long run and be worth while paying a little more!

Thanks for all this help, i really do appreciate it:)
