Question What happened to Socket 2011?

A little while ago I was toying around with the idea of building a system based on an old i7-3960X. I saw that they were very cheap on Ebay, with some still respectable specs, and there was a little bit of nostalgia involved. But when I went to source a motherboard, I found like 2 total, at absurd markup prices. Does this happen to every old socket? I feel like I can still find AMD boards of the same era pretty easily. Anyways, I'm past wanting to build on one, I'm just curious as to what happened to what happened to Socket 2011 v1.
