Ok, wonder why i created this thread?I have to tell everyone who are worries about running their computer without thermal paste. If you want a fast answer then yes, you can run your computer without thermal paste.
Why i state that? Most of the pros in this forum tell we should run your computer with applied thermal paste but I checked that this morning. I removed the thermal paste from both the cpu lid and the cooler.I fired up the system and successfully get to windows 7.I readed the temp of my cpu from bios and the temps was 5°C higher than normal.I think that fine for long term use, however i still hear some guys said :"You will fry your cpu by doing this.".That is totally wrong, You will NEVER fry your cpu by doing this. But you won't be able to maintain current overclock.
The fact is while the air between the imperfect surface have bad heat conductivity the surface will still being very close to each other. That air won't fry your cpu, but they will make it run a little hotter.
Solution for you: If you want to run your cpu without thermal paste ( emergency case or you just forget to buy it), lap your cpu and heatsink untill it have a mirror looking surface!
Even you have thermal paste i still say you should do so.It will minimize the amount of paste used(save your money?) and give you better temp (for crazier overclock?).
Want my system spec?
Intel Pentium g3258 (stock speed)
A 4gb ram, 1600MHz (i don't know the part number, it's unlabeled)
Asrock h81-hds mb
Asus radeon r7250x
Ambient temperature is 20°c, with paste is 25c and without is 30°c (idle).
Haven't test load temp yet. But it should 5-10° higher. Nothing to worry about.
