I was sitting here on my phone while my PC was running idle in the same room. It was working on reading files from a Blu Ray disc that has a few scratches in it, but it was working its way through, but got stuck at times. Suddenly the Blu Ray drive revved up. Then the disc speed really got high/loud, so much so that I turned and looked at the tower. Then it got dangerously fast/loud out of nowhere and then I heard a GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR sound coming from it. I shut the power strip under the desk, turning off the PC. Then I smelled burning. I left it off, turned it on shortly thereafter, and took the disc out. The disc looks okay.
What the hell happened? I've had this drive for several years without this ever happening. The drive still works...I just tested it.
