Hello. Recently ive been dealing with some confusing issues and i need some serious help about this. If someone could actually help me i would really appreciate it. Im upgrading some parts of my pc such like the gpu, psu, ram. But the problem is that the gpu will arrive tomorrow and i have some issues unsolved and i cant figure this out, because im doing the built on my own, im changing the parts by myself and im completly okay with it because i know what im actually doing. The thing is that to replace my graphic card i need to unistall first the old ones because its a big change and i dont wanna face further problems or have leftover files of the old gpu that will cause me trouble in the future (from gtx 650 to gtx 1660 6gb). Ive seen a lot of videos and ive heard a lot of rumors that the DDU is the way to go. All what i have to do its just use this program on safe mode to unistall my drivers and after that i can simply replace the graphicard and reinstall the new ones. But the question is, would i face any problems when i will unistall the old gpu drivers, because ive heard a lot of people saying that when you unistall the gpu drivers your screen will go black and you will not be available to use the computer anymore, thats why im scared and anxious about this. Some other guys told me that you need to turn off the internet after you unistall the drivers because you dont want the computer to install random drivers on its own. Soo basically all what i know till know is this. I need to install the ddu first, after installing it i need to enter Safe Mode on windows 10 and proceed with unistalling the gpu drivers, after i unistall the drivers on safe mode i need to shutdown my pc (and the internet if thats necessary, as some guys recommended it), after shutting down the pc and finish the unistalling procedure i can easily replace the gpu and when im done i can turn on the pc, after turning on the pc i can simply install the latest new gpu drivers from the nvidia website, and thats it, this is all what i know so far. Thats why im asking for some advices, opinions and some help because im afraid that when ill unistall my gpu drivers i wont be able to use the computer anymore and nothing will be normal with my desktop. Thanks for reading all this, if you got something to say, please go ahead and feel free. Thank you again.

Not to worry.
All graphics cards have a default low res mode that does not need any drivers at all.
That is how you get into the bios in the first place on a new build.

Then, be wary of supposed helper apps. Sometimes they set you up for malware or worse.
If convenient, download your driver directly from nvidia ahead of time and save it.
When you get your GTX1660, install the card and run the driver install ; select a clean install.

A purist may say to uninstall everything first., and that might be right if your had an amd card.
But with nvidia, the installer will know what to do.
Windows 10 has basic display drivers. So even if you uninstall the graphics drivers and install the new card when you boot up it will use the Basic Windows Display Drivers until you install the new drivers. Cutting off the internet is because Windows will try to install a Nvidia Drivers by itself and it will install an old version of it.

  • Use DDU in safe mode.
  • Shutdown the system. Turn off the PSU with the switch.
  • Switch the GPU and turn on the PSU again.
  • Boot to windows with no internet and install the latest drivers and reboot.
  • Plug the internet.
You don't even have to use DDU. Just an Nvidia Drivers uninstall will be ok. DDU is when you have issues or when you switch from AMD to Nvidia or when you just wanna use DDU.

Thank you so much, i dont really know what to say, i wasnt expecting any answers and i was desperate. Thank you so much. I will follow the instructions and one last question. So when i will unistall the old gpu drivers my screen wont go black right? I will just have the basic zoomed window version with big large icons as far as i know, and when ill install the new ones my desktop will go back to normal? Is that it?

No. Like geofelt said all GPU has basic display capability and Windows has a basic display drivers. When you uninstall the drivers using DDU or Windows add/remove programs (On the Nvidia Display Drivers) your monitor won't go black.

Yes you will have the large icon low resolution Windows when you boot with the new card :) Make sure you already have the drivers downloaded because your internet will be cut off ;p

As above, no worries.

I suppose it might be a bit cavalier, but just replace the card and install the drivers.
The install will replace the old drivers.
I suggested downloading the driver beforehand when you have your old full resolution available to navigate to get the download. Sometimes that is a bit difficult with limited resolution.

Thank you so much, i do really appreciate your response. Thank you again. Ill do the upgrade tomorrow and hopefully i wont face any issues. :)
