In my asus p8z68 vpro I have two intel 6GB/s and two "marvell 6GB/s" Sata ports.

I noticed I can disable the Marvell "controller" and "OP ROM" in my bios. I was wondering if this means that they will not work at all anymore or does that mean that they will work but not with Marvell controlling them.

For example, if I plug in an SSD which has its own controller in it (Sandforce) and I disable Marvell on BIOS and the Marvell OP ROM too, then the ssd will still work since it has Sandforce in it? or will it not work at all?

If you disable the Marvell controller in the BIOS, you will, in effect, disable those ports on the motherboard. If you have nothing attached to those ports now, it will make no difference in the performance of the devices attached to the Intel ports in any way. They are separate and distinct from one another. If you are using those ports (Marvell) now for additional SATA devices, then you will disable those devices.
I would leave the controller on. It is to make sure that the two marvel ports run optimally for what ever device you have installed in the ports. The sandforce SSD will run better/faster with the marvel controller on.

You should install an SSD in one of the Intel ports. They are slightly faster & more efficient that the marvel ports.
