What happens if I run a GTX 1060 and a GTX 1080

I have an EVGA 1060 6Gb FTW+ edition with the ACX 3.0 cooler, as well as a PNY GeForce GTX 1080 XLR8 Gaming OC. I also have two spare ports on my PC. What would happen if I tried to plug both of them into my PC, power and all, but without an SLI bridge? Would I end up with a 50ib paper weight with attached flashing lights, or would i have gaming power levels over 9000?

Not much really, you would get the performance of whichever one you attached the monitor to.

You could dedicate the 1060 to Physx duty if you play a lot of games that use Physx - this would see an increase in performance as the 1080 wouldnt have to do the physx calculations, but probably not worth the cost, better off just selling the 1060.

I really appreciate the help, I intend to do some mining with the 1080, and I wanted to make sure it wasn't going to turn my PC into a giant paperweight.

How much power do you think that would draw? Do you think a 900 watt power supply would work? List of my specs to follow

I5-4690k Devil's canyon
8gb (4gbx2) Sector 5 DDR3 RAM
G1 Sniper Z87 Rev. 1
EVGA 1060 6Gb FTW+
900w Apevia power supply (I'd like to keep power around 700w if I can)

I dished out the extra cash for mine, I have the 6gb, which does have SLI ablilites

Well, you've saved me, but now I have heating issues. My beloved 1060 is facing heating issues, should I consider going over to watercooling, or deal with the thermal issues?

The card isn't even six months old, i'm worried it's got to do with the 3/4 of an inch of space between it and a 1080 running at full blast, and the inch between it and a Thermaltake NiC-C5
