I really want more better performance or more disk space so should I compress the WINSXS folder?

Solution
Definitely do not compress that folder, do not compress anything inside the Windows folder - - you will screw Windows up.

The only things you should use compression on (zipping) are your own files like documents or photos, but even that should be avoided except for attaching them to an email for faster transfer.

There is only one sensible course of action if hard disk space is getting low, and that's to buy another hard disk or an SSD.

I don't remember how to do it, however, you can delete some Windows Updates backups and some other stuff using one or more of the built-in Windows utilities. Ensure you have restorable OS and Data partition backups on external media before embarking on any such missions whether you use Windows built-ins or 3rd party utilities.
