What happens if you connect 'display' cables from graphics card to the same monitor?

Nothing explodes.
Display likely has select source button or option which can be used to choose which input the monitor is showing.
Computer will most likely see the display twice, once for both inputs out of which only one display is actually usable at once (giving no benefit at all, really, unless you want to compare dvi/vga/other input display quality a lot)

So your computer will see:
Vga monitor (both of same type)
DVI monitor (both of same type)

out of which only one is "on" or "detected" depending on which input is selected to be used on monitor end.

It is just like crossing the streams in Ghostbusters .. :)

Nothing very bad would happen. Your computer might think there is a second monitor. If you extended your desktop you could "display" things on a phantom monitor. That means you would lose sight of things. It would be confusing for you but the PC shouldn't really care.

That statement doesn't make a lot of sense you can't "download" pixels ... But if you are asking how to get more screen space, then you either have to buy a larger and higher resolution monitor, or a second monitor.
