What happens to the monster loot, if the luck value changes throughout
combat, for example for a mage who also wields a weapon with luck but
disarms during casting?

From what I understand it is the amount of luck on the character that does
the most damage at the time of the monster's death that counts. So I
suppose if you're soloing an ancient dragon, it would be best to use your
pure 70s resist suit until just before the killing blow when you'd first
switch into your 2000 luck suit. Hypothetically speaking. I don't do
this all the time. Nope. Not me.

As Poly/Mike stated, the loot is factored based on the luck at the time of the
kill.

So if you had a luck weapon/shield in hand that were disarmed thanks to a
spell, their luck doesn't count.
The simple workaround is to buy/enhance/craft Spell Channeling weapons/shields,
preferably without the Fast Cast Penalty, hopefully with some good luck on
them.(shields don't spawn with luck, so the most you get is 40, but say you
have an SC-0 weapon with base 100 luck that miraculously enhances to 140, an
extra 180 luck isn't anything to sneeze at!)

And spell channeling weapons don't disarm when you cast spells :}

And yeah, the 100-->140 Enhance does happen, i took a chance and had a 100 luck
studded tunic enhanced, my mage now hunts bunnies with a 140 tunic. hehe

I got a nice little axe with 138 luck. To bad its two handed and non spell
chanelling. Rounds my luck up to about 920 though. Not bad.

You can always go spend 8,600,000 gp on a Fortuity Necklace of 200 Luck at
that vendor mall in Luna. *rolls eyes*

To answer your question "what happens to the loot", nothing happens to it.
It never spawns. The loot spawns when the monster is killed, not before.
The loot spawns depending on the amount of luck at the time you killed it.

Hope that helps,
