What happens when I hit max GPU temperature?

Hi all!

I'm running a msi twin frozr ii/oc gtx 560 ti and I was wondering what would happen to my PC when my GPU hits the max temperature, which I've set through MSI afterburner (90C). Will it just restart my PC?

The reason I'm asking is because I'll be leaving my PC on with GPU at max load for a few hours. It's currently at 69C full load, but it went up to 85C yesterday while I was monitoring it.

It would either throttle, meaning lowering performance to not go higher than 90 or shut down.

i suggest you use the afterburner and set a higher fanspeed/temperature setting on the user defined fan speed tab.
If your card overheats it might start acting up and show artifacts, you might get some crashes/safety shutdowns, your mobo might start beeping, or your card might burn out.

Will there be a risk of any permanent damage to the card if it hits 90C and shuts down? Or should i set a lower max temp?

The fans are already set to max.

The thermal max is 99C so it should not hurt it to hit 90C, but chronic higher temps will slowly lower the life of anything electronic.
