Hello! i'm planning on building a file server that will run 24/7 it's only purpose is basically to have an ftp and store files. I have built a few pc's in the past, but I'm quite new to servers, I was wondering if normal hardware (like that used in typical pc's) will work for this use, or if i should go for something like xeon cpu and ecc ram.

The budget is quite slim, currently i have a build for around $500 on pcpartpicker for regular hardware. [Build Link] This build is based around a g4400 Pentium cpu, and other regular hardware, this isn't used to host any intensive processes so it doesn't need great hardware just enough for file storage.

So overall I'm wondering if i need server hardware (Xeon cpu, ecc ram, ect.) or if regular hardware will work for this use.

P.S. - My home computer i built 5 years ago has run quite a bit, maybe 12/7 average over the 5 years and hasn't had any problems with failed hardware yet, so this is another reason I'm asking if i need server hardware, because my regular hardware with medium/heavy use hasn't had problems with failed components. (other than 1 fan going out) -

It's going to be used for a small business, it has less than 15 people that will be using it.

Then consider just getting a Dell workstation.
Instead of faffing around building something.

Still doesn't need to be anything extreme.
