What headphones should I get for 300-400USD

I've been looking into some in my price range, and have found that the HE-400i, the HE-400s, the sennheiser HD 650,600, and the monolith 560 and 1060 are my current "go to" suggestions. I'm still not sure whether I should get planar or dynamic, is there really a HUGE difference? if not are the AKG K712s any good? I've always loved the look of them.

What are you gonna use them for? You have listed headphones on complete opposite ends if the spectrum. Also, what are you gonna use to power them?
