Hi guys!
Actually, I have this rig:

Case: PCYes Horse Red
CPU: Intel Core i5 4690K @ 4.5GHz
CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster V4 GTS
Motherboard: MSI Z97 Gaming 7
RAM Memory: 2x 4GB G.Skill Sniper Series 2133 CL9
VGA: MSI R9 280X 3GB 384bit
HD #1: Seagate 500GB
HD #2: Seagate 2000GB
PSU: Corsair GS 800
Fans: 6x 120mm fans with red led

Here in Brazil everything is expensive due to the amount of charges and taxes we have, so this is what I could buy with my budget. It cost about US$1800,00.

Next year I'm planning to upgrade the CPU and the VGA.
For the CPU I'd like to grab an Intel Core i7 4790K (US$450), but I have some doubts about the VGA.

For the VGA, I have 3 choices:

1 - Buy another MSI R9 280X and make a Crossfire (US$480)
2 - Sell my MSI R9 280X and buy a MSI R9 290X (US$805)
3 - Sell my MSI R9 280X and buy a MSI GTX 980 (US$890)

Considering that I should get around US$400 for selling my MSI R9 280X.

What do you guys suggest me to do?

I think you're right about the 4790K. I just read some articles showing benchmarks comparing the 4690K and the 4790K and the difference in FPS is insignificant. I should stay with my 4690K.

But why do you think that is better to grab a 970 than a R9 290X or 980?

I made a quick search here and realized the R9 280x prices lowered a bit due to the new GTX 900 series and if I coinsider selling my R9 280x, I can get around US$310 (I bought it for US$484).

A new GTX 970 costs around US$590 here. So if the situation is this:

1 - Buy another MSI R9 280X will cost me US$334
2 - Sell my MSI R9 280X and buy a new GTX 970 will cost me R$295

A single GTX 970 is still a better choice over two R9 280X in CrossFire?

PS: I know that two R9 280x requires more wattage from the PSU and generates more heat, but I think my PSU and fan system can handle them.

PS: 1 US Dollar = 2,54 Brazilian Real

a 280x in crossfire is more powerful than a single 970.... if you already have a 280x then it is financially wise to crossfire it

if you dont have any card and buying a new one then buy the 970

I bought the R9 280X in august and will pay it 'till june/2015.
Until I finish paying it, I probably won't be able to buy another VGA.

I saw some reviews and the GTX 970 is really an amazing VGA.
A GTX 970 SLI consumes almost 30% less power than a R9 280X Crossfire.

As more I read about the GTX 970 I feel like that I threw my money in the garbage with this R9 280x

now you will but the 970 ... later in 2015 thr r9 380x is going to be released which is rumored to be faster than the 970 and 980 and consume 190w ... you will feel that your 970 is garbage then.. will you?

cards will come and go... learn to maintain and use what you have
