What I'm sure is a really simple question . . .

Okay. This is the problem:

The start bar will not show any open programs. It has the Quick Launch and the Language Bar, but no open programs. Alt+Tab works, but not the start bar at the bottom. I can post a screenshot if it would help. Oh, yea, I had just installed Norton Internet Security 2006, if that makes any difference, but I already checked their support and didn't find anything. I'm running Media Center Edition 2005 and dual monitors on an X700 w/ catalyst 6.4.

Thanks in advance!

You can drag the quicklaunch and other toolbars over to shrink the amount of space on the taskbar for open programs. Maybe that happened?

That's about all I can think of.

Already tried that, but thanks anyway. I have the taskbar unlocked, but when I try to drag the Quick Launch anywhere, it won't move. If I close the Quick Launch and the Language bar, all I get is a blue line down there. No start button and no tray. Autohide is off, and if I try to drag click the line and drag it up to see the bar, it won't work. If I hit the start key on the keyboard, the start menu appears, but it's way up high on the screen. Everything's fine if I switch to a different account, but since this is my main account, it's pretty irratating.

Thanks again!

If the start bar appears high on the screen, perhaps it got dragged there by mistake? Maybe you changed resolutions and it got left offscreen? I guess you've tried this, but can you drag it to the different sides of the screen?

What does it do in safe mode? The same behaviour?

Are you logged in as administrator? Maybe you are accidentally in a preconfigured restricted account that won't let you fiddle with the desktop?

Otherwise, I'm out of ideas too. If safe mode does this too, you could try reinstalling windows....

Are you sure it's not a virus?!
