What is 2-Way CrossFire?

I'm very, very new to PC building, and I was just wondering, what exactly is 2-Way CrossFire? What does it do differently from just 1 GPU? I'm not planning on dong this, but I'm just curious.

In a layman term 2-way crossfire is actually 2 AMD cards combined to be used in a single computer to improve graphics performance.

Means you run 2 AMD GPU's together and they share the workload to increase performance. There are downsides thought. i.e. some games do not support it and it can actually decrease performance compared to just 1 card, the memory is not combined so you have the amount of the lowest card (if ou run a 1gb and a 2gb card, it leaves you with 1gb), microstutter(this is improving though), etc.

When it works, you can crank up the settings and get more of the eye candy the program developers included.
