An external brick psu would be what you typically use with a laptop, and the psu is outside of the computer. An internal psu resides inside of the computer, typically a computer tower.

If your underlying question is if you can use any external power brick on a regular tower computer (a desktop), you can't. You'd need a proprietary motherboard and case to make something like that work.
