What is a good gaming CPU that is less than $50

i don't think such a thing exists. "good" and super cheap don't really go together very well.

the new pentiums with 2c/4t are great bargains but are about $75. would be well worth upping your budget a touch for one of those

Question ... if you build it as cheap as possible, what do you expect it to do ? What monitor resolution ? And it would be good to know PSU model to determine whether its suitable for gaming type loads. A reference 660 (SC has same PCB as reference) will not perform well in today's games

here we see that a 780 was 1.67 times (100/60) as fast as a 660
here we see that a 970 was 1.14 times (95/83 as fast as a 780
here we see that a 1050 Ti was 0.72 times (100/139) as fast as a 90

1.67 x 1.14 x .72 means that the 1050 Ti is 1.37 times faster than the 660 or about as fast as a RX 460

Start here and go thru the pages one by one and see if you will be satisfied with the fps in the type of games you play at the resolutions you play at.

It is an evga bronze edition 500watt psu and I would like to run games like player unknow's Battlegrounds I was given the power supply and the gpu for free along with a case that is a step down from a full size I forget what the size is called. I would be happy with a smooth 720p but if 1080p is possible with little more money I would enjoy that as well

I would recommend you go hunting around for an old i5, i7 1st or second gen, they can be found for like $20 and perform alot better than a Pentium.

I recommend you go for a B250 or z270 motherboard. You can add an i7 7700k or an i5 7600k in the future and have overclocking capability if you wish to do so without having to change the motherboard. An H110 motherboard is pretty cheap but you will have to buy a new one in the future if you want to upgrade. Do you want to future-proof and save money in the long term or get a cheap one now and spend more money in the future? That's up to you.

Here are all the recommended and compatible motherboards.

I personally recommend the MSI z270 Mortar or the Gigabyte - GA-Z270P-D3

pretty much anything that it fits on would be good enough. be sure it has the couple features you need and then grab whatever is the cheapest since that is the goal.

I might be to late, but don’t buy new. You can get used 4c4t or 6c6t X58 cpus for like $30. If you have to buy new, save for a ryzen 3 1200 or i3 8100. Skylake and Kabylake are dead, I can’t reccomend buying any of their cpus new.

I honestly think you should resell that board and buy either a b350 board or used.... You will seriously regret what you payed for skylake in a year or two.
