Basically looking for memory for asrock z97 extreme 6. Would like something that OC about 10%. I'm thinking 8GB should be enough but 2x4 would allow me to get 8 more if ever needed. w/some head room and up to $200 total. I guess best way to ask is what is the most bang for the buck for $200?
Thx

You could get up to 2x8 for that kind of money. Two sets of ram that would do and look fine on that motherboard,

What CPU will you be running, if a K model you can run most anything, price wise 1866/9 through 2400/10 is often very close so would go highest. Might want to look at the GSkill Snipers, good strong sticks and OC well above spec

Is there a speed increase if you go 4x4 vs 2x8? One common thread seems to be g.skill from advice to reviews seems like they are better then corsair.
thx

Good idea to use as few sticks as possible as it's less stress on the MC, but also want to keep the channels populated so on a dual channel mobo 2x8GB would be preferred, where on a quad channel mobo like socket 2011 would want 4x4

There is no speed increase by going with a 4x4GB setup on a Z97 chipset board. The LGA 1150 CPUs have a dual-channel RAM controller. You would be better off going with 2x8GB if you want 16GB. That will also leave you an upgrade path if it becomes necessary in the future.
