So I have been thinking of upgrades across the board and i know i need storage and possibly better ram but, I keep thinking my cpu would be a good start as well and don't fully understand the forums and posts I've been reading. I game at 2560x1440p and have a 32 inch samsung G7 240hz curved and want to get the most out of it. I also stream on the same pc. I do have a dedicated streaming laptop that I usually use but my latency being were i currently live is kinda trash.
If you provide assistance thank you in advance.

Cpu Options:

Ryzen 9 5950x
Ryzen 9 5900x
Ryzen 7 5800x3D

Current desktop setup:
MSI RTX 3080 Ventus 3x Plus 10G OC
Ryzen 7 5800x
Asus Rog Strix B550-F WIFI II AM4
Corsair Vengeance 2x8gb CL18 3600mhz
Samsung 970 EVO plus 1TB
Be Quiet 360mm AIO
Corsair 850w Gold power supply
Corsair 4000D case

5800X3D would be a decent improvement for gaming, but not all titles benefit from the extra cache.

3600 CL18 is decent enough, you might try some memory overclocking to tighten the timings.

Beyond that there is the 7800X3D plus a board and DDR5.

3080 10GB should still be decent for 1440p, but if you want to push 240hz, then yes, a faster GPU is possible. RTX4080 or 7900XTX is about it. With a 4090 you would probably want to get a 1000W+ PSU.

You might need a BIOS upgrade, but the 5900x is a nice upgrade. It does not mandate the liquid cooling a 5950x requires, and the 12 cores run faster than on the 5950x. Not sure if the cores of a 5900x are any different than the 5800x, but I can tell you that this CPU is really good and gives you a lot for the money. I definitely would not expect the cost of a 5800x3D to be cost efficient even if it is an improvement (and it probably is an improvement). I'm only guessing, but I suspect your 850W PSU would work with this. Your AIO certainly would work, but I don't know if it would be sufficient on an 5950x, and I would not want the lower single core speed of the 5950x over the 5900x.

Thank you for the response.

Within AM4 then the only real upgrade would be the 5800x3d in my opinion. Not sure how much you would notice the difference to a 5900x from a 5800x - not from a gaming perspective.

Think what type of games you play and then have a look at the performance delta between the 5800x and 5800x3d part (and 5900x as there may be games that utilise the extra cores). If you start with places like GamersNexus and Hardware Unboxed on YouTube then at least you see if this will get you closer to where you want to be. Be mindful that the CPUs are tested with a 4090 normally to show the absolute performance numbers for that CPU but it still will show the differences.

Pushing 240hz can be very difficult even for some older titles so keep that in mind.
